This is a word that seems to generate fear in adults. Creative inspiration makes people think they need to go the the museum and see a famous work of Art to be inspired. Many think inspiration can only come from a “professional” and only from a visual experience. This is so untrue. Feeling inspired is exciting! It sparks something in you to do what you find enjoyable. INSPIRED: of extraordinary quality, as if arising from some external creative impulse.

You can be inspired by every one of your senses. Take smell for instance, fresh baking cookies is an easy one. Baking is a creative outlet for many and can bring back memories with loved ones, possibly Grandma, and the baking you did together. Hearing, taste, sight, smell, all can bring back beautiful memories that inspire you to be creative and enjoy your time doing it.

Did I mention that your creative project doesn’t have to turn out perfect! Creativity has to do with the experience of creating NOT the finished project. So do what you enjoy, be creative in whatever way you are moved today. Do not be afraid, do not shoot for perfect and do not critique your efforts.

I am inspired by things every day. My only problem is having the time to follow through on them. Here is a project I did recently as I was inspired by a 2021 Planner…OK, this may partly have been because I’m SOOOOOOOOO ready for 2020 to be over ;). The fun part about white pottery is that the possibilities are infinite!

Here is the planner I found that inspired me. I like the phrase, the design and the overall colors. The size was perfect and I thought to myself, “Wouldn’t this look nice sitting on my desk”, which is a place that it will never be sitting! So why not take the design and make something that will sit on my desk! There are techniques used in every medium to make creating easy. You don’t have to try to do it on your own. Again, it’s the process not the final product. You don’t have to come up with the idea to make it your own. Pottery , for instance, can have a design traced right onto it. Print up your design, size it to your piece, trace on and paint in. Just like a coloring book! Anything you see you can recreate, you just may need some direction or encouragement but take the chance and enjoy the experience.
